For 40 years, ZEST Anchors has been a global leader in the manufacturing of overdenture attachments. The original ZEST® Anchor Attachment was developed in 1972 by Max Zuest at his dental laboratory in San Diego, California. Forty years later, our departed founder Max is remembered for his vision as a pioneer in dentistry.
Zest pioneered self-aligning attachments to combat the damage done by the improper seating of overdentures. We have since achieved certification to the stringent requirements of ISO 9001 for the design and quality manufacturing of dental attachments. The LOCATOR product line is our third generation of attachments and has achieved worldwide acceptance as the premier overdenture attachment in the dental industry.
Today, more than 70 manufacturers have partnered with ZEST to customize our LOCATOR® pivoting technology abutments to be interface compatible with over 350 different implant products. The LOCATOR carries the CE Mark for distribution in Europe, and also meets the Canadian Medical Device Requirements for Canada.
We are extremely proud of our company’s long-term reputation of excellence in quality dental manufacturing and service to our customers. The worldwide acceptance and success of the LOCATOR® has propelled our company to new levels of accomplishment. By creating exciting new products that are second to none, the continued success of Zest Anchors is cemented in the philosophy of placing patient satisfaction above all else.
The inventor of the original Zest Attachment and founder of Zest Anchors LLC, Max Zuest, was born in Switzerland and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. He was invited to start dental laboratory work by a dentist on his milk route as he worked his way through college. Max started Zuest Dental Lab in the Hillcrest area of San Diego in 1950. In late 1958, Jim Shiner joined Max as his partner for the growing Zuest Dental Lab. Together, they built a full service laboratory with over 100 employees. In 1972, Max came up with the idea for his own Zest Anchor dental attachment after using attachments imported from Europe with less than expected results.
In 1977, Max formed the Zest Anchors corporation to control the manufacturing and distribution of Zest Anchor attachments. His son Paul joined him after graduating from San Diego State University with a degree in Biology. Max and Paul worked together in a small manufacturing facility in Kearny Mesa machining, packaging, and shipping Zest Anchor kits to fill the increasing numbers of orders. Zest Anchors moved to Escondido in 1990 where Max had a permanent manufacturing facility built. Max’s son Paul eventually took over the running of the company.
In 1994, the Zest Anchor Advanced Generation (ZAAG) attachment was developed and patented. The ZAAG Attachment was produced to fit all major implant systems, as well as root retained overdentures. Worldwide sales of this attachment helped Zest Anchors to grow and prosper throughout the 90s. With the introduction of the LOCATOR® Attachment System in 2001, Zest Anchors experienced tremendous growth in both size and worldwide recognition. Paul Zuest worked together with Scott Mullaly to develop and patent the LOCATOR® and are honored by the trust that a majority of implant companies sell our attachment products along with their implants.
